SOUTHERN MAINE
As a Maine photographer, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph at some of the best spots around southern Maine! I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite locations, with pros, cons, and photo examples!
Portland Head Light
Pros: beautiful sunrise views, lovely evening golden hour, great ocean backdrop, lighthouse backdrop, expansive area, multiple different areas for photos, waterfront access, parking lot, food trucks
Cons: very touristy/can be busy, park closes immediately after sunset, some difficult areas to walk/climb (especially on the rocks), parking lots can fill up quickly
Perfect for: engagements, proposals, couples, small elopements/weddings, families
Two Lights State Park
Pros: beautiful sunset views, great ocean backdrop, expansive area, multiple different areas for photos, waterfront access, parking lot, not very touristy/busy
Cons: park closes immediately after sunset, some difficult areas to walk/climb (especially on the rocks), parking lots can fill up quickly, no lighthouse access/view
Perfect for: engagements, proposals, couples, small elopements/weddings, families
Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park
Pros: great ocean backdrop, beautiful tree backdrop, expansive area, multiple different areas for photos, waterfront access, parking lot, not very touristy/busy
Cons: park closes immediately after sunset, some difficult areas to walk/climb (especially on the rocks), parking lots can fill up quickly, lots of mosquitoes in the summer
Perfect for: engagements, proposals, couples, small elopements/weddings, families
Maine Audubon
Pros: expansive area, multiple different areas for photos, wide walking trails, very accessible for all ages, not very touristy/busy, no closing time, parking lot
Cons: some trails go up small hills if limited mobility is a concern
Perfect for: engagements, proposals, couples, small elopements/weddings, families
Falmouth Town Landing
Pros: beautiful sunset views, great ocean backdrop, multiple different areas for photos, waterfront access, not very touristy/busy
Cons: very limited parking, need to time with high and low tide if you want to get onto the beach area
Perfect for: engagements, proposals, couples, families
Eastern Promenade
Pros: beautiful sunset views, great ocean backdrop, multiple different areas for photos, waterfront access, lots of parking options
Cons: can be busy
Perfect for: engagements, proposals, couples, families
Old Port (Downtown Portland)
Pros: beautiful cobblestone streets, different buildings for backdrops, perfect if you’re looking for an urban feel/vibe
Cons: can be very touristy/busy, parking can be a challenge during the summer

York/Wells
Pros: beautiful sunset views, great ocean backdrop, waterfront access
Cons: limited or restricted parking, need to time with high and low tide
